そんな旧OSのサポートですが、Windows 7が2020年1月14日、Windows 8(8.1)が2023年1月10日となっていますので、頭の片隅においておきましょう。前者はおそらくテレビなどで大々的に取り上げられるはずですが。

気になるのが、Windows Vista世代以前をお使いの方。無料アップグレード自体が提供されていないため、市販のWindows 10を買って入れてみようか、なんて話もあるかもしれませんけど・・・さすがに「おすすめしません」。機械そのものが、9年前とは大幅に変わっているから、ですね。
中でもとりわけ気をつけたいのが、作業をする土台となる「メモリ」の搭載量です。

物理メモリは最低でも2GBが要求されるようになり、すなわち、Vista以前のぱそ子さんはほぼアウトということになってしまいます。その当時のハイエンドスペックで4GB前後でしたので、メーカー製PCなどの普通のぱそ子さんはそのまま利用し続けるのは難しいでしょう。
さすがにVistaが登場してから9年あまり経過していますので、ぱそ子さん本体そのものを買い直すことをおすすめいたします。隔世の感があるはずです。
付け加えて、自作パソコンユーザー向けにうれしい機能がようやく搭載となりました。

昨年夏に書いた記事で私は「遅かれ早かれライセンスが必要になる」と記しましたが、その部分にメスが入ります。このタイミングで、にはなりましたけど「ライセンス認証をマイクロソフトアカウントに紐付ける」機能がアニバーサリーアップデートで実現するとのことです。あわせて、私の文章も訂正させていただきます。よいアップデートで何よりです。
これにより、「何かあったら電話して～」のプロセスがうまくいけば省ける可能性が出てきており。「例外」に遭遇しない限りは、「理論上、ハードウェア構成がどのように変われどライセンスは正しく付与される」ことになります。
（ですが私自身はWindows 10 DSP版、ライセンスを常に1つは余らせていたりします＞問題が起きたとき面倒になりがちなため）

・・・というよりも、AdobeさんのCreative Cloudをはじめとしたサブスクリプション型サービス（月額払いなどのソフトウェア）を使っていると、「それが当たり前」な機能なのですけどね・・・（’’
（詳しいことはいえませんが、「認証に最低限必要な情報」をサーバー側に蓄積しているのですよ）
ゆえ、自作ぱそ子さんユーザーはアニバーサリーアップデートは必ずやっておきましょうね。いち早くされたい方はInsider Preview Build 14376を導入しましょう。1800以上のバグつぶし・・・って、どれだけバグが潜んでいるのやら。

・・・で、私としていえることは「遅かれ早かれWindows 10を使うようにはなるはず」ですので、少しずつ、なれていってみてはいかがでしょうか、というのも一応あります。
後は、ゲームが好きな人なら「DirectX 12はWindows 10にしか提供されない」ということ。今後出てくるグラフィックスカードは全てDirectX 12に対応させてくることでしょうから、全ての機能を生かすには必要不可欠となるわけですね。
ただ、なれているものを無理に手放す必要はありません。使えるだけ使い倒して、移行してもいいかなという気になったとき。再びアップグレードすればいいと考えます。
そのアップグレード後ですが、元のOS（Windows 7/8.1）に戻す方法はこのページを参考にしましょう。
注意してほしい点は「アップグレード後、1ヶ月以内にキャンセルする」こと。ぜひ、お忘れのないように。戻し忘れると「Windows 10のまま」となってしまいます。そうなると、Windows 7/8.1を一から入れ直しになりますので・・・。
なおWindows 8.1利用の方で「出荷時の設定に戻す」オプションを使われる方は、必ず目を通しておくことをおすすめします。一歩誤ると、ユーザーデータも全て吹き飛ばしかねないがためです。
・・・というよりも、望んでいないはずですからすぐに消されることでしょうけどね。にはは。あ、そうそう。バックアップはくれぐれもお忘れなきよう。
